On handing over the app on the devices for testing

20 January 2007 by Rod McLaren

Do: Tell your customer that you’ll soon be handing them the first devices, that the application on them isn’t finished, and that at the same time you’ll also provide documentation, and a list of known bug and features you’re still working on, and a simple means for testing and reporting. Talk a little about how to work together to achieve meaningful and efficient testing feedback, and come to an agreement. Only then should you surprise them by getting the devices and documentation out of your bag.

Don’t: Hand your customer a device and then start talking about testing – because as soon as it’s in their hands they can’t hear a word you’re saying.

In our excitement about progress on the project, we still get this one wrong sometimes.
